Working with In collaboration with Project with Made in Bermondsey

ABOUT THE PROJECT

We worked with the Bermondsey Regeneration project as part of their initial consultation period to engage local residents with sewing classes as part of the consultation period whilst attracting new audiences to Bermondsey and raise awareness of the future plans for the high street in Bermondsey. We offered a series of sewing and craft workshops in collaboration with local artists Luciana Soul (leading on upcycling) and Jackie Gordon (leading on screen printing).

We had access to a meanwhile space and created an inclusive interactive programme which included sewing classes, T-shirt printing and upcycling.

OUTCOME

The workshops occured every weekend in Autumn 2019, and attracted a total of over 200 participants. Each sewing class was lead by Fabric Swatch along with a local artists. There was a blend of local residents and people across London. Attracting students, teachers, hobbyists and local designers. The meanwhile space became a regular safe space for people to drop in and sew during the week, which led to weekly drop in sessions led by local artists.
